Built in 1070 to honour Confucius, it became Vietnam's first university in 1076.

History

The temple was founded in 1070. In 1076 the Imperial Academy opened next door, first for royal children and later for gifted students from across the country.

What to see

  • Khuê Văn Các pavilion – a symbol of Hanoi.
  • 82 doctors' stelae on stone turtles, listing laureates from 1442 to 1779.
  • Thiên Quang well in the third courtyard.
